there's a scene in the movie "Stranger Than Fiction" where harold and ana are talking.
She makes him sit and eat some cookies because she was a bitch to him all day. Near the end of the scene, after they have had a real conversation for the first time, she tries to give him some cookies to take home. he tells her he can't take them because they constitute a gift so he offers to buy them.
after he says he'll buy them from her she gets visibly upset. harold has no idea what he just did. ana tells him to go home.
he then says, "Okay... Did you...? You baked those cookies for me, didn't you? You were just trying to be nice and I totally blew it."
i feel like that a lot. i never realize until i have made an ass out of myself.
